Open position at Uppsala University

The Department of Information Technology at Uppsala University seeks an Associate Professor in Scientific Computing with spezialisation in distributed, parallel and data-intensive computing.

With this position we plan to strengthen our activities in distributed, parallel and data-intensive computation and their applications. Examples of research in the area at the division include development of new programming models and frameworks for task-based parallelism, federated machine learning, new frameworks for distributed and cloud-based analysis of streaming data, large-scale parallel numerical linear algebra, optimization and simulation with applications in, e.g., computational chemistry, systems biology, genetics and computational fluid dynamics.

The position is hosted by the Division of Scientific Computing within the Department of Information Technology. As one of the world’s largest focused research environments in Scientific Computing the research and education has a unique breadth, with large activities in classical scientific computing areas such as mathematical modeling, development and analysis of algorithms, scientific software development and high-performance computing. The division is playing a key role in the development of new strategic areas at the department such as data science, data engineering and artificial intelligence. We are also participating in several university-wide and national  initiatives such as the strategic e-science research area eSSENCE, the centre for interdisciplinary mathematics and the Science for Life Laboratory. The department is host for UPPMAX which provides and develops  infrastructure for high-performance computing,  and several of the division’s researchers contribute to its leadership.
