Update (2 June) : Program
To push the boundaries of e-science closer to realistic applications, and to improve our understanding of chemical and physical phenomena, development of methods and models at all levels is needed. Not least, we must find ways to combine methods in a powerful yet feasible way, and learn how to smoothly move up and down the multiscale ladder. The national e-science programme eSSENCE – where Uppsala University, Lund University and Umeå University are partners – now welcomes you to discuss methods/models and modelling applications at this fourth national meeting on multiscale materials modelling.
Colleagues from our national sister program SeRC, from the Chalmers e-science initiative as well as all other e-science actors or interested colleagues are warmly welcome to participate. Senior researchers, postdocs and PhD students are all equally welcome.
We use the word “materials” in a broad sense, including molecules, liquids and interfaces, and even fish.
Program: Day 1 will start at 13.00 and end with a poster session, drinks and a buffet dinner. Day 2 starts at 9.00, includes lunch and ends at 16.
Lars Ojamäe (Linköping University)
“Modelling at the electronic and atomistic scales:
From water clusters to inorganic materials“
Pietro Asinari (Politecnico di Torino)
“Modelling beyond the atomistic scale:
From molecular interfaces to open issues in renewable energy engineering“
Per Siegbahn (Stockholm University)
“Where can one cut corners in QM calculations?
– An account of how to overcome the barriers in photosynthesis research“
David Sumpter (Uppsala University)
“The principles of collective fish behaviour –
are there similarities to molecular dynamics?“
Registration and finances: The meeting is free of charge, including buffet dinner on Day 1, lunch on Day 2, and coffee etc for all registered participants. Registration deadline: 20 May 2015. Registration Form (closed).
Scientific contribution (orals and posters): If you are interested in communicating your results, please select oral (max 15 minutes) or poster, on registration (title, but no abstract, is needed). Posters will be accompanied by oral poster presentations, giving the poster presenters the opportunity to convey their most important messages in a short oral presentation.
Hotel rooms: A number of hotel rooms have been reserved at Hotel Eklundshof (see Additional Hotel information). If you book before or on 20 May, these hotel rooms are free of charge for registered participants from outside Uppsala. In all cases you must book the room yourself by contacting the hotel (mention the code “eSSENCE”).
The following conditions apply to be able to use this hotel benefit.
- The offer is valid for Hotel Eklundshof.
- Ph.D. students share a double room with separate beds, Ph.D. holders get a single room (as long as they are available).
- If you belong to the research group of any of the eSSENCE PIs (principal investigators), the room costs will NOT be covered by the conference.
- If you have booked the hotel room and do not come to the conference and do not cancel the room, you will be billed for the full room cost.
Additional information (transportation, maps, etc.) concerning Uppsala and the meeting can be found here.
We hope you want to participate and contribute with your scientific input !
