Database Technology

Within Essence, the database group will perform research on novel infrastructures for managing, searching, documenting, and preserving scientific data. The research will be based on knowledge on high performance data management for scientific applications and use of semantic web representations.

Important challenges are:

• How can queries expressed by scientists on a very high application-oriented level allow for scalable search and analysis of very large volumes of data, including both measured and simulated data?
• How should scientific experiments be expressed on a high level to make them searchable and repeatable? What meta-data is needed to indentify relevant experiments?
